Founders' Day at Mellers

Founders' Day at Mellers

This lovely annual event celebrates the origin of our school by awarding trophies in recognition of the achievements of pupils in Year 6.

In the 16th century Dame Agnes Mellers married a wealthy man who made bells for his living. When he passed away she went to see King Henry VIII to ask for a charter to open a school for boys in Nottingham. She used some of her late husband's money to open the school, which originally was in the Lace Market in town, later the school became known as the Nottingham Boys' High School.
