Pupil Premium and Sports Award

What is it?

The pupil premium is funding allocated to schools for the specific purpose of boosting the attainment of pupils from low-income families. Funding is based on children registered for a free school meal (FSM) and children that have been looked after for more than six months.

The Government believes that the Pupil Premium, which is additional to main school funding, is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between children eligible for FSM and those that are not. Whilst schools are free to spend the Pupil Premium as they see fit, we are required to publish online information about how we have used the Premium. Our pupil premium strategy statement is updated annually by 31st December (statutory deadline)

How is the Pupil Premium used?

Our key objective in using the Pupil Premium Grant is to narrow the gap between pupil groups. As a school we want to ensure that children make good progress and, with the hard work of staff, excellent partnership work with parents and a determination to ensure that every child succeeds our objective will be met.

Through targeted interventions we are working to eliminate barriers to learning and progress. Many children start school with low attainment on entry and our aim is to ensure that they make accelerated progress in order to reach age related expectations as they move through the school.

We will ensure that:

A high profile is given to children who receive pupil premium

All staff are accountable for the progress of children in receipt of pupil premium

The headteachers and deputy headteacher will track and monitor achievement of children in receipt of pupil premium

A designated Governor is allocated to review impact of the pupil premium Grant

Sports Premium

In addition to pupil premium, we receive PE and Sport Premium funding, to use to increase participation in sporting activities, helping all children to be more activity. Please see the latest report on how this funding is used at Mellers.
