What are the school day hours?
The school starts at 8.40 and finishes at 15.15 (3.15pm). This equates to 32 hours 55 minutes a week.
What times do the children have a break?
Morning break for Year One and Two is at 10:45. Years Three to Six play at 11:00. Break time is 15 minutes long and is supervised by class teachers and teaching assistants. Lunch break is 12:15 – 13:15. We are an OPAL school and the children are supervised by our play leaders, teaching assistants and members from the leadership team.
Do you have a nursery?
Yes, we have a nursery at Mellers for 3 year olds. There is also a 2 year old provision within our Federation at Nottingham Nursery School.
Where do I take my children to, and collect them from?
The school gates open at 8:40 for all children. You may walk them to the classroom or leave them safely at the gate. The gates are locked at 8:47 to allow children time to get to the classroom before the register closes. In the afternoon, the gates open at 3:10 pm with the children being dismissed from classes at 15:15 (3:15). Parents should not use the reception door for collection of children at the end of the school day.
Do you have a breakfast club?
Yes, we operate a free breakfast club for all children from 8:00. If you require childcare before this time, you are able to book a space from 7:30 at a cost of £2 per day.
Do you offer after school care?
Yes, parents can pay £8.00 per day for afterschool Childcare Club (Kidzklub) from 3.15 – 5.30pm. Children enjoy activities and a snack in the safety of the school environment.
Where can I buy the school uniform?
We sell Mellers’ sweatshirts at the main school office for £10.00 each. There are also some second hand sweatshirts, washed and clean at £1.00 each. Alternatively, you are welcome to buy plain, navy blue sweatshirts, jumpers and cardigans from the ranges found in shops and supermarkets.
Is uniform compulsory?
It is not compulsory, but we do like to see children in a navy sweatshirt as it makes everyone look smart and makes them feel like part of Mellers.
What do I need to do if I want to take my child on holiday?
We do not authorise holidays during term time. Applications for extended leave for exceptional circumstances only should be made to the Headteacher in writing on the relevant school form. Please see our Attendance Policy in the ‘resources’ section for full details.
How much is dinner money?
School meals are £2.70 per day, or £13.50 per 5 day week. We require all meals to be ordered and paid for a week in advance using the Arbor app.
How do you communicate with parents and carers?
We use Arbor as our main form of communication via the app. Please speak to the office if you need help accessing this. We send a weekly newsletter on a Friday, this contains information about the events happening in school. We also regularly update our Facebook page so please follow us. Information is updated on our website with paper copies being available free of charge in the school office.
