20.11.20 Carol McCrone, Vice Chair of Governors

Great meetings with my link governor staff members during governor monitoring week w/c 9 November, albeit virtual this time due to the pandemic.

I met with the subject leads for history and geography and it was fantastic to hear how quickly the new syllabuses have been embedded and are complementing each other in terms of linking themes (e.g. Egypt and deserts, Pompeii and volcanoes, manufacturing during the Industrial Revolution and ethical clothing production now, etc.) and whole school themes such as diversity have been brought to life by local historical heroes, such as George Africanus. The staff have been incredibly resourceful to ensure enrichment activities have not been hampered by the pandemic and the children have been able to get outside and enjoy the local area.

I also met with the Key Stage 1 (KS1) and KS1 Phonics leads and with the SEND (Special Education Needs and Disability) lead. It was great to hear how well our children are progressing and have been so resilient during the summer term lockdown. Thank you to all staff and parents for their efforts to keep our children safe and supporting them with their learning in such difficult times.

A massive thank you to Miss Dermody, Mr McKeefry, Miss Dickens, Miss Whysall and, last but definitely not least, Mr Ward, for making the time to speak to me and for their dedication and enthusiasm.
