Our students come to the Focus Provision unit each morning, at the start of the school day, to check that their hearing aids, cochlear implants and radio aid systems are working properly. The children then access English, maths, reading and Visual phonics sessions in the morning. These lessons are tailored to the individual children’s needs; some children learn in the Focus Provision classrooms and some in the mainstream classrooms. All lessons in the Focus Provision are planned and delivered by Teachers of the Deaf or Specialist Teaching Assistants.
The curriculum lessons are fully inclusive in mainstream classes. The children are supported by Teachers of the Deaf or Specialist Teaching Assistants to access the wider curriculum. All lessons are adapted and resourced to match the needs of the children using visuals, signed vocabulary and signing support.
Direct teaching in the FP also involves:
- Individual or small group pre and post teaching
- Subject specialist vocabulary input
- Individual Education Plan Interventions
