Foundation 2

In the summer term, Foundation Two will be reading ‘YUCKY WORMS’ by Vivian French, ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar ’ by Eric Carle and ‘Omar, The Bees and Me’ by Helen Mortimer and Katie Cottle. We get a delivery a special gift – a wormery. The children will visit the Nature Garden to collect worms; they will enjoy digging for them and then watching them make their home in the wormery. They will discuss the importance of mini beasts and draw and label a worm. The Hungry Caterpillar story will introduce them to life cycles and they will have a go at drawing and labelling a story map. ‘Omar and The Bees’ is a super story about how we can make our environment more ‘bug’ friendly.

Maths – we are learning to double and half numbers up to 10 and also decide which are odd and even. We will be subitising numbers up to 10 and using number lines to 20 to explore what comes after/before, what is bigger or smaller.

In phonics – we will cover words with short vowels eg past (consonant/vowel/consonant/consonant), compound words eg lap/top, and words ending in ‘ing’, ‘ed’, and ‘est’. We have learned tricky words: said, so, have, like, some, come, love, do, were, here, little, says, there, when, what, one, out, today.

Science: Our curriculum work will include:

Writing: instructions and fact files.

Learning about life cycles and saving the environment.

RE: Eid and Christian stories from the bible

PSHE: Families

Singing: A range of songs and rhymes and enjoying a variety of stories.

PE will be on Mondays. Please bring your child’s kit in a labelled bag to keep at school for the half term. Your child will need a white t-shirt, navy blue joggers or shorts, and black Velcro sports shoes.
