Mellers’ Primary School is committed to providing a rich and ambitious personal development curriculum that equips every child with the knowledge, skills and confidence to thrive in modern Britain. Our PSHE and RSE curriculum, delivered through The Story Project, is carefully tailored to reflect the needs of our pupils, families and diverse community.

Through Circle Time, assemblies and enrichment opportunities, children develop confidence, resilience and respect while exploring issues that matter to them. Our core values of Ready, Respectful and Safe are embedded throughout school life and closely align with British Values. Pupils learn about diversity, equality and protected characteristics, celebrating the rich cultures and experiences within our community.

Children experience democracy first-hand by voting for School Council and Head Committee representatives and taking part in national events such as general elections, helping them understand their role as active and responsible citizens.

Keeping children safe and supporting their wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do. Partnerships with PCSO Lucy Oram, Remedi and the National Justice Museum provide age-appropriate learning about personal safety, gangs and knife crime. Alongside support from Place2Be, the Mental Health Support Team and our Family Support Worker (Senga Cannop), pupils and families can access high-quality emotional wellbeing services whenever needed. A strong online safety programme also helps children navigate the digital world safely and responsibly.

We believe every child deserves opportunities that broaden horizons and raise aspirations. Our extensive enrichment programme includes partnerships with Nottingham Forest Foundation, Nottingham Music Hub and Nottingham Playhouse, residential visits in Years 4 and 6, and a wide range of sporting, cultural and leadership experiences. Through OPAL Play, children develop creativity, teamwork and independence, while strong links with local secondary schools ensure a smooth transition to the next stage of education. We encourage all pupils to think ambitiously about their future and the careers they may pursue.
