13.7.21 Carol McCrone, Vice Chair of Governors

Miss Dickens, KS1 lead, Miss Whysall, phonics lead, and I met on 6 July for our regular catch-up in relation to Key Stage 1 progress. Both said how busy it had been and potentially disrupting with different children and staff out of school, due to COVID. They paid special tribute to the fantastic work done by their colleagues in the office, managing the constantly changing situation so smoothly. Great to hear how well phonics has progressed under extremely difficult circumstances, and of the excellent feedback from external specialists and internal colleagues. They explained how Key Stage 1 staff remain focused on building foundations and developing a love of reading. The children have especially valued story time during the pandemic and the excellent on-line support that has been provided, and continues. Everyone is really looking forward to the new library over the summer.  The maths knowledge organisers are now provided to help parents and children with their home learning, together with guidance in newsletters. Thank you both for your time and brilliant work over the pandemic.
