Music at Mellers

We’re very proud of our excellent music provision at Mellers, which is provided by the fabulous Nottingham Music Hub.  Every pupil in Key Stage Two learns to play an instrument as part of our In Harmony project; everyone in KS2 is taught to play either a trumpet, trombone, baritone or cornet through whole class ensembles and the vast majority of them have passed accredited ABRSM exams at either grade 1,2 or 3 by the time they go to secondary school.  One of 4 Nottingham city area bands takes place at Mellers, and most children attend this weekly event.  Many of our children go on to join the RHYO Connect orchestra, and the Robin Hood Youth orchestra.

The wonderful Catrin Jones works with us for a day each week, teaching singing to early years and key stage one, as well as the key stage two choir.

Every Tuesday afternoon, our drumming teacher Jess McLaughlin works with individual pupils, teaching them to drum.  Please contact the school office if you would be interested in your child learning how to play a full drum kit.

Watch the video to see our pupils playing trumpets, trombones and djembe drums, and you’ll also find our music teachers below:
