I’m Amanda Dawson, headteacher at Mellers. I grew up in the Manchester area, and came to Nottingham to study history at the University of Nottingham. Three years after graduation I was accepted onto, and successfully completed, a Post Graduate Certificate of Education in Primary Education in 1990 at what was then Trent Polytechnic. My first teaching post was at William Booth Infant School in Sneinton; I have always worked in Nottingham city schools and was appointed as head at Mellers in April 2007. I am passionate about making sure that we prepare our children and families for a full and happy life in which they’re equipped to compete for the best universities and jobs out there in the workplace. We want our pupils and community to be the ‘best that they can be’, whatever their career choice, and this philosophy and passion are embedded in all aspects of Mellers life. I love my job!
